Fixing a Warped Door (segment #5870)

If your wooden door is showing signs of warpage, here's a quick tip for some help:

Remove the door off the hinges.

Place it over a pair of sawhorses. (The sawhorses need to be about 6" from the ends of the door.)

Place the door so that the bowed side is facing up.

Take a piece of cardboard, drop cloth or an old blanket and put it over the door to protect the finish.

Take some weights (you can use bricks, concrete blocks, or heavy books) and put them over the warped part of the door.

Leave these weights on the door for a few days.

After a few days come back and check on it.

Add a little bit more weight if the door is not straight.

Once your door is flat, seal all four edges with at least two coats of polyurethane or paint to block any moisture from being absorbed in the door.
