Fixing a Warped Door (segment #5870)

If your wooden door is showing signs of warpage, here's a quick tip for some help:

  • Remove the door off the hinges.
  • Place it over a pair of sawhorses. (The sawhorses need to be about 6" from the ends of the door.)
  • Place the door so that the bowed side is facing up.
  • Take a piece of cardboard, drop cloth or an old blanket and put it over the door to protect the finish.
  • Take some weights (you can use bricks, concrete blocks, or heavy books) and put them over the warped part of the door.
  • Leave these weights on the door for a few days.
  • After a few days come back and check on it.
  • Add a little bit more weight if the door is not straight.
  • Once your door is flat, seal all four edges with at least two coats of polyurethane or paint to block any moisture from being absorbed in the door.
